Petroleum Extension Program 75 years

Now, more than ever, we understand the challenges many educational institutions across the nation face due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That’s why, in an effort to help mitigate these challenges and reinforce our support to students in Texas and nationwide during this time, The University of Texas at Austin’s Petroleum Extension (PETEX®) will be making all e-learning (e-courses, modules, certificate programs, videos and e-books) available online at no charge to all public high schools and community colleges for the remainder of the Spring 2020 and Summer 2020 semesters.

For these high schools and community colleges, we have significantly reduced our technology costs to only require a one-time $10 per student setup fee.

In our 75 years as a leader in education and training programs and resources for the oil and gas industry, PETEX has experienced — and are accustomed to ongoing — changing market conditions and workforce demands. As part of The University of Texas at Austin and the Cockrell School of Engineering, our number one priority is supplying our learners and education providers with top-tier educational resources, while administering lifelong education support to learners in all phases of their lives. We understand and appreciate that not all educational journeys look the same, and we pride ourselves on being able to provide various options to help learners achieve success.

PETEX, Texas Engineering Executive Education (TxEEE), the Cockrell School of Engineering and The University of Texas at Austin as a whole, are committed to providing continuous educational support to students by removing financial and physical obstacles standing in the way of their success. This is our way of supporting the institutions that serve those students and help them to successfully navigate the shift from in-classroom, instructor-led teaching to online learning.

PETEX is the Petroleum Extension, a unit of the Cockrell School of Engineering. Although PETEX receives valuable support from The University of Texas at Austin, its operational funding is derived solely from fees for course enrollments and product sales. No state funds are used to produce their learning products or programs.
