TEA to provide weighted funding for Computer Science

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) released guidance to school district administrators on January 17th, notifying districts that three Computer Science courses will now receive weighted funding through their Career and Technical Education (CTE) allotment based on enrollment in the 2018-19 school year. The Texas Computer Science Task Force released its 2018 report "Preparing Texas Students for the Cyber Economy" to the public today. The report recommends several policy changes and details a new high school computer science (CS) pathway culminating in a capstone cybersecurity course.

PSA contest to play big role in CyberSecurity Awareness Month plans to reach Texas students

The Texas Department of Information Resources Office of the Chief Information Security Officer (DIR OCISO) has announced that this year they will be hosting a CyberSecurity Public Service Announcement competition for Texas high school students grades 9-12. Students are encouraged to learn about four designated cybersecurity topics and submit a 30 second PSA promoting cybersecurity awareness by October 5th to be considered for selection.
