Mrs. Rachel Smith
Curriculum Coordinator

The focus of the 2017- 2018 Lake Houston Math Collaborative is to build teacher content knowledge in the area of algebra and to add to and improve the participants tool box of instructional strategies that will increase rigor, add relevance and build relationships in the math classroom. Participants involved in the Lake Houston Math Collaborative will work with mathematics content with a focus on proportional reasoning. Work will center on applying multiple representations and algebraic reasoning for foundations of functions. Participants will also be exposed to instructional strategies that will support development skills that will benefit students as they work toward being college and career ready. Those skills include problem solving, creativity, analytical thinking, collaboration, communication and accountability. All participants will learn to use technology as a tool in their classroom. Google Drive, Classroom and Community will be used as well as Twitter and many math and general education iPad applications. Our goals for the 2017-2018 Lake Houston Math Collaborative are to increase teacher understanding of the 2012 Math Standards (TEKS), to increase the use of high yield instructional strategies in the classroom and to increase teacher’s leadership capacity by giving them the opportunity to lead others. If we meet those goals, we will meet the number one goal of increasing student achievement.
