Abstract

The UTRGV Texas Regional Mathematics Collaborative aims to close the achievement gap by focusing mathematics teacher professional development on Geometric, Algebraic and Proportional (GAP) Reasoning. The program will infuse geometric habits of mind and algebraic habits of mind blended with proportional reasoning. This sustained professional development program will also involve MTMs in lesson studies with learners, who are recruited from participating districts. Formative assessment of student work samples will be the thread that binds the program together. The goal is to improve mathematics teachers' content and pedagogical content knowledge through the use of reflective practices in order to improve student achievement.
